We all know that as we age we begin to lose muscle. This normally starts around 30 years old if we are not engaged in maintaining muscle. Maintaining muscle has a few components. The first to come to mind is exercise and strength training. Strength training is the number one thing we can do to both build and maintain muscle mass. As we age it is critical to strength train using weights as it helps prevent falls and other injuries. The second thing we need to do is focus on our diet. Muscles need quality protein and vitamins to both grow and maintain size. The best way to get this is through real food like meat and vegetables. Lastly, make sure that you have time to recover. Recovery is usually done when we sleep - this means prioritizing bedtime and making sure that we don't consume more then one drink for women or two for men for optimal sleep.
If you have been told that you need to start strength training by your doctor and don't know how to start give us a call. Our personal trainers are knowledgeable and friendly and more the happy to help your towards better health!
